Samsung has continued to expand its mobile payment service which has been launched in a number of new countries this year alone. Samsung Pay was launched in India in March this year and later in May Samsung expanded the services to Sweden, Hong Kong, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates. Now, there are indications that the payment service will make its debut in France as early as this month.
Earlier in May, Samsung was tipped to launch Samsung Pay in France around September together with the Galaxy Note 8. The Note 8 is already official thus paving the way for a launch in France to happen as part of its Galaxy Note 8 unveil on September 15 in France. In that case, the Samsung Pay payment service may also see the light of day. This prediction is further strengthened by the arrival of the Samsung Pay app for compatible smartphones in France. Owners of compatible smartphones in France are reportedly able to download the app but the app is yet to become functional. This is a familiar pattern that has we have previously seen in other markets where the payment app was scheduled to launch.
When the payment service goes official, Samsung will reveal the list of partner banks which will support Samsung Pay in order for those with compatible devices to start making payments. We can’t say for sure if Samsung Pay will be available for the Tizen-powered Samsung Gear S3 and S2 smartwatches from inception in France. September 15 is just around the corner, we’ll find out if Samsung Pay will be hitting another European country on that day.
